“Remote Assessments: How to Prepare and What to Expect”
Both of the latest revisions to Chapter 252 and ISO 17025 included language that allows for technology-based, or off-site, assessments of environmental laboratories. Most regulators had not yet developed new assessment techniques before COVID-19 brought on-site assessments to a grinding halt. Regulatory agencies developed procedures and processes to perform laboratory assessments without physically visiting their laboratories or they stopped laboratory assessments all together. The newest concept to come from the COVID-19 disruption is the ‘remote assessment’. These remote assessments are new to the laboratory community and sometimes scary because of the unknown. The goal of this presentation is to take some of the fear and unknown away by providing guidance for how to prepare for a remote assessment, giving practical examples of what to expect during the remote assessment, and providing guidance and feedback from the regulatory agencies/accreditation bodies.
