The NY Association of Environmental Laboratories (NYAAEL) and the PA Association of Environmental Laboratories (PaAAEL) are pleased to announce the agenda for the 2009 Annual Convention and Exposition at The Eden Resort & Conference Center in Lancaster, PA.

The 2009 annual convention theme is Business Development & Laboratory Quality. In these economic times, labs must consider new areas of business, but they must also be driven by quality analytical practices and ethical principles. The topics at this year’s convention will include newly regulated areas that could potentially increase laboratory testing. Data integrity issues, ethics, and related topics will also be covered. This convention has everything you need to improve your lab’s quality system and have the information you need to explore new opportunities. Don’t miss it!!!

There are two concurrent sessions scheduled each day of the conference. They are as follows:

  • Monday Morning - Session One: “Changing from the 2003 NELAC Standard to the New TNI Standard” - Marlene Moore, Advanced Systems
  • Monday Morning - Session Two: “Laboratory Pollution Prevention” & “Unacceptable QC Results” - Joe Slayton, EPA; “TNI Small Lab Advisory Committee” - Len Schantz, TNI Small Lab Advocate; & “EPA Updates Affecting Water & Wastewater Labs” - Lisa Daniels, PA DEP
  • Monday Afternoon - Exposition: There will be a 30-40 booth exposition with vendors of analytical instruments, equipment & supplies. There will also be four, 30 minute technical mini-sessions provided by the vendors.
  • Tuesday - Session One: “Pharmaceutical Testing in Water & Wastewater” - Alexa Obolensky, Philadelphia Water (invited); “Consumer Product Safety Testing” - Unknown; “Natural Gas Drilling: Frac Water Testing” - PA DEP (invited); “Laboratory Calculation Requirements” - Pat Chany, C2Chany Consulting & Andrea Pohle, Precision Scales & Balances (invited).
  • Tuesday - Session Two: “Internal & Electronic Audits: Satisfying Regulatory Requirements” - Unknown; “Management Reviews” - Pat Chany, C2Chany Consulting; “Corrective Actions & Prevention, & Customer Complaint & Resolution” - Joann Slavin, H2M Labs; “Health & Safety in the Lab” - Unknown; “Ethics Training” - Becky Roztocil, Paradigm Environmental.

Please note: All food for the convention is included in the registration fees and cannot be split out. The room rate at the Eden Resort is $119.95 per night plus tax, single or double occupancy. Call (717) 560-8400 for reservations before June 19th.

Registration Process

If you would like to register online and pay by credit card, you can do so at the nyaael.org web site by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Registration Information page for prices and and to fill out the information form. Please fill out the form for each registrant.
  2. After sending the form, follow the link on the form page to the Purchase Services page to pay for your registration(s). You may pay with credit card, purchase order, or check.

Convention and Exposition Fees

Registration fees include admission to convention sessions, exhibits, and all meal functions. The registration fee does not include lodging. A $50 per day surcharge will be assessed anyone staying at another hotel.

Full Registration deadline is July 8. After July 8 you must pay a late registration cost, and only a check or credit card will be accepted. Cancellation requests must be made in writing. A $50 administration fee will be assessed on cancellations made after July 10. Due to reservation guarantees, no refunds will be given after July 14.
